Undergraduate students in RBE 3002 Unified Robotics IV taught by Professor Padir demonstrated their final projects on December 17. The project involved implementing localization, obstacle avoidance, mapping and navigation algorithms on Turtlebots (http://www.turtlebot.com/). We (RJ, Ty and Velin) took long exposure shots of the robots navigating an obstacle course with a RGB high-power LED placed on top of the robot. This specific robot uses the Driving with Tentacles approach. In simple terms, the robot places arcs of varying radii over its map of the environment and selects the arc that does not hit anything and aims the robot towards its waypoint.
